Cloncaird Castle was originally built in the 16th Century as a tall square tower with a semi circular courtyard to the rear. In 1530 sixty horsemen gathered in this courtyard in preparation for The Raid on Barbieston summoned by Patrick Mure, the Laird of Cloncaird. The tall square tower is still at the core of the present building and an armorial panel dated 1585 is still in place on the castle wall above the entrance to the courtyard.

Cloncaird Estate is also home to eight individual self-catering cottages lovingly restored and renovated in keeping with the unique heritage of the estate – offering exclusivity, and Scottish charm.
